All About Frances Tiafoe’s Ethnicity and Background

Tiafoe is of Sierra Leonean descent and was born in the United States. He was born on January 20, 1998, in Hyattsville, Maryland, alongside his twin brother, Franklin.

His parents, Constant (Frances Sr.) Tiafoe and Alphina Kamara, emigrated from Sierra Leone to the United States in the early-to-mid 1990s to escape the country’s ongoing civil war.

The 28-year-old has also been very vocal about his parents and his upbringing, often reflecting on how their journey shaped his life and career.

“I’m a son of immigrants, both parents grew up in Sierra Leone, born and raised in Sierra Leone. Came to the States early ’90s, late ’80s, around there. Whatever. They met here, had me and my twin brother,” he said during the US Open in 2022.

Tiafoe’s deep connection to his roots is also evident in the way he speaks about diversity in tennis. He has praised athletes from different backgrounds who have found success in a sport that has historically lacked representation

.”Ultimately, to be able to see so many people of color do great things in a predominantly white sport, it’s tremendous. I think that brings unbelievable diversity to the game… African Americans in tennis, we’re at an all-time high right now. I mean, totally killing it.” he said.
