Latest news on Iran war: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi struck a cautious tone amid optimism for a deal with US after virtual signing of MoU.
Iran war LIVE: Iran foreign minister Abbas Araghchi has said the talks on final agreement with US ‘likely’ to start Friday, AFP reported. Even as Iran and the US seem to be inching closer to a deal, Araghchi struck a cautious tone, saying: “We have a history of broken commitments… a history of agreements being torn up. All of this is present in our minds.”
Oil prices ease
Oil prices extended losses on Tuesday, as markets weighed prospects for resumption of supply through the key Strait of Hormuz against shaky physical market drivers and a lack of details from a preliminary deal to end the Iran war.
By 0436 GMT, Brent crude futures fell 25 cents, or 0.3%, to $82.92 a barrel and U.S. West Texas Intermediate inched down 9 cents, or 0.1%, to $80.66 a barrel, Reuters reported.
On Monday, oil prices fell nearly 5% to their lowest close since March 4, after US President Donald Trump said a memorandum of understanding was signed to end the US-Israeli war with Iran, though full details have not been made public.
US Vice President JD Vance told Fox News on Monday that President Donald Trump may decide to release Washington’s agreement with Tehran before Friday.
The agreement, which was electronically signed by leaders in the US and Iran, is expected to be signed in person on Friday.
Trump has dismissed reports that Washington would provide USD 300 million to Tehran under the newly announced peace agreement as “fake news.”
In a post on Truth Social, Trump reiterated his administration’s position that the agreement with Iran would ensure that Tehran does not develop nuclear weapons.
“Iran has agreed to never have a Nuclear Weapon! Also, the story that the US is paying Iran 300 million Dollars is Fake News, put out by the Dumocrats!!!” Trump wrote.
Trump says MoU signed
Trump said on Monday a preliminary agreement to end the war in the Gulf has been signed by the US and Iran, though details have yet to be made public and both countries said a permanent truce is yet to be negotiated.
The agreement would extend a tenuous ceasefire announced in April by another 60 days and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran has effectively blocked since the U.S. and Israel attacked Iran in February.
“The deal’s all signed,” Trump said after he arrived in France for a summit of the G7 group of big economies. He said Vice President JD Vance would attend a formal signing ceremony in Geneva on Friday.
History of broken commitments, says Araghchi
Even as US and Iran inch closer to a deal to end months of conflict, Iran foreign minister Abbas Araghchi struck a cautious tone, saying: “We have a history of broken commitments… a history of agreements being torn up. All of this is present in our minds.”
Strait of Hormuz ‘reopened’
Trump also said Monday that ships were again moving through the Strait of Hormuz and the vital oil route would be “completely open” by Friday, after Washington and Tehran announced a deal to end the Middle East war.
The reopening of one of the key oil passage marks a major step toward ending months of deadly conflict and economic turmoil triggered by US-Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28.
“Ships are starting to move, many loaded up with Oil, out of the Strait of Hormuz,” Trump said, adding later that he did not “think we will need much help” keeping the waterway open.
Iranian media reported on Monday evening that three oil tankers and two cargo ships carrying goods had passed through the area that had been subject to a US naval blockade.
Iran hails MoU
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has described the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Iran and the United States as the outcome of months of negotiations and sustained diplomatic efforts, saying that its successful implementation could become a source of national pride.
In a post on X, Pezeshkian praised officials and institutions involved in the negotiations that culminated in the agreement, which is expected to be formally signed later this week.
“The memorandum of understanding that has been drafted is the result of months of dialogue and persistent follow-ups in this regard, and if all its provisions are properly implemented, it can be considered a document of pride for the country,” Pezeshkian wrote.
“I deem it necessary to thank my brothers, Dr alibaf, Araghchi, the members of the Shura Council, and all those who played a role in this path,” he added.

Latest news on Iran war: Trump to host Iraqi PM at White House in mid-July, says US embassy
Latest news on Iran war: US President Donald Trump will host Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi at the White House next month, the Iraqi leader’s office and the US embassy in Baghdad said Tuesday.
“Special Presidential Envoy Barrack conveyed President Trump looks forward to welcoming Prime Minister Al-Zaidi to the White House mid-July to discuss the future of this important relationship,” said a joint statement from the Iraqi leader and Trump’s special envoy to Iraq, Tom Barrack, issued by the embassy.
The announcement comes during a visit by Barrack to the Iraqi capital Baghdad during which he discussed with the prime minister disarming and dissolving Iraq’s armed groups operating outside state authority.
The United States has recently increased pressure on Baghdad to disarm Iran-backed groups. In early May, Washington pledged to resume financial transfers to Iraq and security assistance once “concrete steps” have been taken against the groups.
Armed groups launched attacks against US facilities in Iraq after the Middle East war broke out in late February, before a ceasefire took effect on April 8.

US Iran war LIVE: Iran ordered to ‘leave USA immediately’ after FIFA 2026 World Cup match against New Zealand
US Iran war LIVE: Iran began its FIFA World Cup 2026 journey on Tuesday morning with a 2-2 draw against New Zealand. The Group G encounter had it all, and the fans got to witness one of the best games of the tournament so far. After a thrilling encounter at the Los Angeles Stadium, Iran’s football coach Amir Ghalenoei revealed that his team were ordered to leave the US immediately and return to its training base in Mexico. However, the coach didn’t say much about where the directive came from.
According to the Associated Press, Iran was expecting to spend the night in California for recovery after a gruelling game against New Zealand, but they were told they must leave immediately for the 140-mile trip back to Tijuana.
“They didn’t even give us time to recover,” Ghalenoei said through an interpreter.
“After the game today, they said to us, ‘You have to leave immediately.’ It’s very important for us to have time for recovery, but we are asked to get on a plane and return to our camp in Tijuana, and we are really troubled by that,” he added. Read full report

US Iran war LIVE: US-Iran deal promises end to war but how it will work remains unclear
US Iran war LIVE: D oubts swirled around the U.S.-Iran interim deal to end the war in the Middle East as shippers said it could take weeks for confidence to return after any reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and fundamental questions remained unanswered.
U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday a preliminary agreement to end the conflict had been signed by the U.S. and Iran, although details have yet to be made public and both countries said a permanent truce was yet to be negotiated.
The interim agreement would extend a tenuous ceasefire announced in April by another 60 days and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran has effectively blocked since the U.S. and Israel attacked Iran in February.
Negotiators would address difficult issues like the future of Iran’s nuclear programme during the next phase of talks to be held during the 60-day window.
Two other issues that Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu used to justify the war – ending Iran’s support for regional armed proxies and curbing its missile programme – are not thought to be on the agenda for those negotiations.
“The deal’s all signed,” Trump said after he arrived in France for a summit of the G7 group of big economies. He said Vice President JD Vance would attend a formal signing ceremony in Geneva on Friday.
Oil prices fell on Monday to their lowest level since March 10, shortly after the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow waterway between Iran and Oman, cut off one-fifth of the world’s oil trade.
But on Tuesday the price steadied, reflecting a more cautious stance, with Brent crude futures sliding 0.3% to $82.96 a barrel in Asian trading hours.

US Iran war LIVE: Trump says Hormuz to reopen Friday under US-Iran deal
US Iran war LIVE: Iran and the United States said ships had again started moving through the Strait of Hormuz — with President Donald Trump saying the vital oil route would be “completely open” by Friday — after Washington and Tehran announced a deal to end the Middle East war.
The reopening of one of the world’s most important energy chokepoints would mark a major step toward ending months of deadly conflict and economic turmoil triggered by US-Israeli strikes on Iran in late February.
“Ships are starting to move, many loaded up with Oil, out of the Strait of Hormuz,” Trump said, adding later that he did not “think we will need much help” keeping the waterway open.
The deal sparked a huge rally across global equities, with the Dow on Wall Street hitting a record high and crude prices plunging almost five percent.
Iranian media reported on Monday evening that three oil tankers and two laden cargo ships had passed through the area that had been subject to a US naval blockade.

US Iran war LIVE: Oil heads for longest losing run this year following Hormuz deal
US Iran war LIVE: Oil headed for its longest losing streak this year as the US-Iran deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz boosted expectations for a revival in supply, with leading Wall Street banks reducing their price forecasts.
Global benchmark Brent fell below $83 a barrel, falling for a fourth day, while West Texas Intermediate was near $81. The interim agreement is due to be signed by both sides in Switzerland on Friday, although Washington and Tehran have yet to release the text of their memorandum.
Both Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs Group Inc. cut price outlooks for the coming quarters, with the latter now assuming Persian Gulf exports will reach pre-war levels by the end of July, a month earlier than previously forecast.
President Donald Trump insisted that the strait would be clear on Friday. “We have a lot of lanes right now already,” he told reporters at the Group of Seven summit in France. “It’s going to be open and it’s toll-free.”
Oil’s drop to the lowest since early March has erased the bulk of the gains seen during the conflict, easing inflationary pressures just as policymakers at the Federal Reserve assess interest rates this week. Still, many questions remain over how the interim pact will be implemented, including concerns over shipping safety, operating rules and whether the chokepoint — which carried about a fifth of oil supply before the war — will actually remain toll-free.

US Iran war LIVE: Rupee inches up, Iran deal longevity worries and hedging drag
US Iran war LIVE: The Indian rupee rose modestly on Tuesday, though scepticism over the longevity of a U.S.–Iran truce and hedging by importers checked any meaningful advance.
The rupee rose 0.1% to 94.6175 against the U.S. dollar as of 11:00 a.m. IST.
The local currency hit an intraday high of 94.53 before slipping, much like on Monday, suggesting importer hedging interest around those levels, a currency trader at a private sector bank said.
While the rupee’s underlying tone has improved following the U.S.–Iran peace deal, uncertainty lingers over its details and durability.
Anil Bhansali, head of treasury at Finrex Treasury Advisors, said markets were awaiting details of the Iran deal, which are yet to be released.
On Monday, U.S. President Donald Trump said Washington and Tehran had signed a preliminary agreement to halt the Gulf war, with both sides adding a permanent truce still needed to be negotiated. The deal would extend a tenuous ceasefire announced in April by another 60 days and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a conduit for about a fifth of world energy supplies.

US Iran war LIVE: Iran coach alleges team ordered out of US after 2-2 draw with New Zealand in World Cup opener
US Iran war LIVE: The coach of Iran’s World Cup team said it was ordered to leave the U.S. and return to its training base in Mexico only a few hours after opening its politically charged tournament by playing to a 2-2 draw with New Zealand on Monday night.
Coach Amir Ghalenoei didn’t say who ordered the Iranians to leave earlier than planned. The team had expected to spend the night in California to maximize the normal recovery process after its opening game, only to be told after the match that everyone must immediately get on a plane for the 140-mile trip back to Tijuana.
“They didn’t even give us time to recover,” Ghalenoei said through an interpreter. “After the game today, they said to us, ‘You have to leave immediately.’ It’s very important for us to have time for recovery, (but) we are asked to get on a plane and return to our camp in Tijuana, and we are really troubled by that.”
The Iranians’ World Cup cycle has been in upheaval since the U.S. and Israel began a war against Iran on Feb. 28. Iran ultimately decided to compete even after FIFA rejected its request to move its three group-stage matches out of the U.S.

US Iran war LIVE: Oil falls as markets weigh return of supply, US-Iran peace deal
US Iran war LIVE: Oil prices extended losses on Tuesday, as markets weighed prospects for resumption of supply through the key Strait of Hormuz against shaky physical market drivers and a lack of details from a preliminary deal to end the Iran war.
By 0436 GMT, Brent crude futures fell 25 cents, or 0.3%, to $82.92 a barrel and U.S. West Texas Intermediate inched down 9 cents, or 0.1%, to $80.66 a barrel.
On Monday, oil prices fell nearly 5% to their lowest close since March 4, after U.S. President Donald Trump said a memorandum of understanding was signed to end the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran, though full details have not been made public.
The hostilities led to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz that typically carried one-fifth of the world’s oil supply before the conflict.
Some analysts expect a resumption of supply soon via the Strait, with other factors weighing down physical market prices.
“From here, it likely takes several weeks for tanker flow to be restored,” Morgan Stanley analysts said in a client note.
“We see 50% of production back by September, and 80% by December, slightly faster than before.”
A broad range of indicators had signalled weakness in physical oil markets in recent weeks, they added.
“High U.S. exports and low China imports are the key drivers (and) in the short term (i.e. next weeks) they do not seem to come to an end just yet

US Iran war LIVE: Iran foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei said Washington must ensure that Israel stops fighting in Lebanon under the agreement.
Lebanon was pulled into the war in early March when Iran-backed Hezbollah launched rockets at Israel after the killing of Iran’s supreme leader, prompting Israeli strikes and a ground invasion.

US Iran war LIVE: Trump confident of Iran deal at G7 Summit, but CIA and others have their doubts
US Iran war LIVE: As the United States and Iran work towards signing a peace deal to end the nearly three-month-long conflict in West Asia, US President Donald Trump appeared confident of the agreement as he arrived in France for the 2026 G7 Summit. However, back in Washington, the story is different.
The Trump administration remains doubtful of Iranian intentions towards the peace agreement, Axios reported. CIA Director John Ratcliffe told Trump and other senior officials of the administration about the doubts about Iran’s willingness to stick to the nuclear concessions sought by the US.
Along with Ratcliffe, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth have also raised their concerns regarding the 14-point memorandum of understanding.
“The intelligence reflects that the Iranian intentions are not in line with their commitments under the deal,” Axios said, citing a source familiar with the matter.
However, the report added that Vice President JD Vance, special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are confident and advocated for the deal.
Along with this, scepticism around the deal also reached Capitol Hill.
“I think that my understanding of what it entails — and, again, not having seen anything — it would require, I think the issues are going to be compliance, and how are you going to enforce that,” Senate Majority Leader John Thune told reporters. Read full report here

US Iran war LIVE: Indian markets continue to trade in green following strong global cues; brent crude at USD 82/bbl
US Iran war LIVE: Indian equity markets opened in the green on Tuesday, tracking strong performance across global peers and selective overnight gains in US markets.
The BSE SENSEX stood at 76,526.77 points, up by 262.44 points or 0.34 per cent, while the NSE NIFTY 50 gained 70.00 points or 0.29 per cent to trade at 23,923.90 points in early trade.
The initial surge reflects an accumulation of positive domestic sentiment alongside a distinct shift in foreign institutional investor flows.
Ajay Bagga, Banking and Market expert observed that domestic conditions remain supported by structural changes in foreign capital deployment.
“Indian markets are showing a positive bias with FII flows turning positive for the last two trading days. If this trend holds, a big overhang will be removed from the Indian markets,” Bagga said.
Analysing the broader international landscape, Bagga said, “Asian markets are soft this morning as markets mull the contours of the Iran-US deal, the time to recovery of normal tanker traffic from the Gulf and of crude oil prices to stabilise at below USD 70/bbl.”

US Iran war LIVE: Strait of Hormuz transit will take ‘weeks’ to resume, says largest tanker operator
US Iran war LIVE: Shipowners will not resume transit through the Strait of Hormuz for weeks until they are confident that the U.S.-Iran deal is “material”, the chief executive of Japan’s Mitsui OSK Lines told the Financial Times in an interview published on Tuesday.
“What will have to come in place is not just a simple agreement between the relevant countries, but it has to be material and translated into the real situations in the Strait of Hormuz, so that shipping lines can make themselves comfortable to go through,” Mitsui OSK’s Jotaro Tamura said.

US Iran war LIVE: G7 leaders open summit talks on Ukraine and the Middle East
US Iran war LIVE: Leaders at the Group of Seven summit of major industrialized nations face a packed agenda on their first full day Tuesday, including challenging discussions on ending Russia’s war in Ukraine and addressing the Middle East crisis. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will be in attendance at the invitation of host France.
The Ukraine talks come on the heels of US President Donald Trump’s announcement of an agreement to end the 3 1/2-month-old U.S. war against Iran. In recent weeks, the Iran conflict has overshadowed the war in Ukraine that Russian President Vladimir Putin launched more than four years ago.
Trump said he had good conversations on Sunday with both Zelenskyy and Putin. “Now that this (Iran) is finished, we’re going to be focusing on that,” he said, speaking during a bilateral meeting Monday with French President Emmanuel Macron.

Iran war LIVE: What is known about the preliminary agreement to end West Asia conflict?
Iran war LIVE: Even as US President Donald Trump said a preliminary agreement to end the war in the Gulf has been signed by the US and Iran, details have yet not been made public.
The agreement would extend a tenuous ceasefire announced in April by another 60 days and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran has effectively blocked since the US and Israel attacked Iran on February 28.
The deal is the most significant step yet to resolve the conflict, which has killed at least 7,000 people, mostly in Iran and Lebanon, and upended global energy markets.
Vice President JD Vance told CNN that the signed memorandum was only about 1-1/2 pages “and so it is a very general document.” Details will be released over the next two days, U.S. officials said. Vance said it included “a very significant sanctions relief package” for Iran.
US and Iranian officials say it could eventually deliver substantial economic benefits to Iran by lifting sanctions, unfreezing foreign assets and setting up a $300 billion reconstruction fund, paid for by neighboring Gulf states, which host US military bases.
US officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Iran would have to satisfy US demands never to build a nuclear weapon and cut off support for militias like Hezbollah in Lebanon in order to get those benefits.
Iran agreed to sharply curtail its nuclear program in a deal signed in 2015 with the US and other countries. Trump withdrew the US from that accord during his first term as president. That agreement allowed Iran to regain billions of dollars in frozen assets, which Trump has frequently derided as sending “pallets of cash” to Iran.

Iran war LIVE: Iran warns of ‘swift response’ in case MoU violation
Iran war LIVE: Iranian Army spokesperson General Mohammad Akrami-Nia warned that any violation of the MoU will be met with ‘swift response’
“We will maintain the level of readiness of the armed forces more than ever before” and “increase our defence capabilities during the agreement period,” Akrami-Nia was quoted as saying by Iran’s IRIB News.
“We have complete distrust in the enemy. We are facing an enemy that has twice bombed the negotiation table and stabbed diplomacy in the back from behind. Therefore, we have no trust in this enemy, and just as during the ceasefire period, we will seriously pursue the path of strengthening our defensive and deterrent power,” he said.

Iran war LIVE: Willing to transform relationship if Iranians change their ways, says JD Vance
Iran war LIVE: US Vice President JD Vance on Tuesday outlined the framework of US’s emerging agreement with Iran as he asserted that the deal would ensure Iran never acquires a nuclear weapon while opening the door to a potential transformation in relations if the country demonstrates verifiable changes in its conduct.
Speaking to Fox News, he addressed the claims circulating about financial incentives allegedly linked to the deal. Vance dismissed reports that Washington was transferring billions of dollars to Tehran.
“I’ve seen a lot of misinformation out there. I’ve seen $24 billion going from the United States to Iran. That number is totally false, totally made up.”
He reiterated key pointers from the deal–from the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to oil prices coming down and ensuring Iran never has a nuclear weapon, while leaving open the possibility of improved bilateral ties contingent on verified Iranian compliance.
He told Fox News, “If the Iranians are willing to change their ways and stop trying to build a nuclear weapon, stop trying to fund terrorism all over the Middle East, then we are willing to actually fundamentally transform our relationship with them. That’s what the president has offered. We would need to verify that. We would need to see real progress and real action.”

Iran war LIVE: Gold steady as investors await details of US-Iran peace deal
Iran war LIVE: Gold prices were largely steady on Tuesday after rising to a more than one-week high in the previous session, as investors awaited further details on the U.S.-Iran peace deal.
Spot gold was up 0.2% at $4,315.87 per ounce, as of 0231 GMT, after rising as much as 3.6% on Monday to hit its highest level since June 5.
U.S. gold futures for August delivery were down 0.3% at $4,337.10.
U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday a preliminary agreement to end the war in the Gulf has been signed by the U.S. and Iran, though details have yet to be made public and both countries said a permanent truce is yet to be negotiated.
“We have had a good run in gold prices ever since late Thursday on the Iran news. I think this euphoria rally might last for another few days culminating in Friday’s signing ceremony,” said Edward Meir, an analyst at Marex.
The U.S. dollar held near 10-day lows ahead of the Bank of Japan’s interest rate decision.

US-Iran war LIVE: Rupee upswing may slow with Iran peace deal facing market test, says report
US-Iran war LIVE: The Indian rupee’s upward momentum, which has lifted it to a one-month high, is likely to stall on Tuesday with markets assessing the durability of the Iran peace deal and whether the dip in oil prices will be sustained.
The rupee is expected to open largely flat against the U.S. dollar after climbing 0.42% on Monday to 94.71. The currency has rallied 1.1% over the last two sessions to 94.4525, buoyed by a slide in crude oil prices following the Iran‑U.S. peace deal.
“It’s fairly straightforward from here: if the drop in oil holds up, there is room for a move to 93.50 to 94,” a currency trader at a bank said.
“If the drop proves temporary, then it’s back to rupee being under pressure. I am inclined to think that this possibility should not be ruled out in the midst of the current news flow.”
Brent crude on Monday dropped to $82.40, the lowest level in more than three months. The key question for the outlook of the rupee and other emerging market currencies is whether this decline in oil prices will hold, which in turn will largely depend on the durability of the U.S.-Iran peace deal.
Markets on Tuesday settled into a more measured tone on developments in the Persian Gulf after the initial excitement over the agreement between Washington and Tehran began to fade. Oil prices edged higher, while Asian equities and currencies were mostly weaker and U.S. Treasury yields rose.
“Uncertainty remains around the details of the (US-Iran) negotiations and the path around reopening (of the Strait of Hormuz)”, analysts at MUFG Bank said in a note.
US-Iran war LIVE: A supertanker sanctioned for its role in moving Iranian oil is moving toward the Persian Gulf, testing a US blockade that’s been in place since mid-April.
The Tejas was spotted approaching the Gulf of Oman on Monday with its transponder switched on. It’s the first observed sanctioned vessel to approach the area while broadcasting its position since the US and Iran agreed to an interim deal aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz. The vessel’s draft suggests it is not carrying cargo.
Most sanctioned vessels have operated with their transponders turned off. The US naval blockade has forced several ships with ties to Iran to alter course and disabled vessels that ignored instructions, making the latest voyage a closely watched indicator of changing enforcement conditions.
On Monday, US President Donald Trump said Hormuz “is already partially opened,” and “it’ll be completely opened” on Friday. A sustained return of sanctioned tankers could offer an early indication of easing access through the strait.
Separately, a Joint Maritime Information Center advisory said measures targeting Iranian shipping will stay in effect until June 19, when the interim deal takes effect.

US-Iran war LIVE: US says Hormuz to be toll-free under Iran deal
US-Iran war LIVE: The United States said Monday that ships will move toll-free through the Strait of Hormuz under an Iran peace deal signed by President Donald Trump, and insisted Tehran would have to fulfill its commitments before getting any economic benefits.
Trump, US Vice President JD Vance and Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf electronically signed the so-called memorandum of understanding (MoU) Sunday, the officials said.
“The president wanted to sign it personally because he wanted to show his dedication to the process,” one of the US officials said on condition of anonymity.
But Vance admitted the brief outline deal kicks the thorniest issues — especially Iran’s nuclear program — down the road.
“The MoU is about a page and a half, so it is a very general document,” Vance told CNN.
He later said on NBC that US and international nuclear inspectors will be allowed back into Iran to help destroy its enriched uranium.
Vance will lead technical talks this week and attend a physical signing ceremony expected in Geneva, Switzerland.
