Weightlifting: Sanjana eyes another medal for India

Sanjana will look to extend India’s impressive run in weightlifting when she takes the platform in the women’s 77kg final, opening the action for the Indian contingent on Day 6.

Weightlifting has been one of India’s biggest medal contributors in Glasgow, with the lifters accounting for seven of the country’s 12 medals so far. India have won medals in seven of the eight weightlifting categories contested at CWG 2026.

Recap: India add two silvers while boxers assure more medals

India enjoyed another strong outing at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow on Tuesday, with athletes starring in athletics, weightlifting and boxing.

Gulveer Singh led the charge with a silver medal in the men’s 10000m, battling challenging weather conditions to secure his maiden Commonwealth Games podium. Harjinder Kaur also added a silver in the women’s 69kg weightlifting final.

India’s boxers provided more reasons for cheer, with Preeti Pawar, Priya Ghanghas and Jadumani Singh all advancing to the semi-finals and assuring the contingent of at least three more medals in Glasgow.

Vishal TK also progressed to the men’s 400m semi-finals, scheduled for Thursday.

Indian athletes have won 12 medals – two golds, seven silvers and three bronze – at the CWG 2026 so far.

India’s boxing campaign enters another crucial phase, with six fighters taking to the ring in quarter-final bouts. Sakshi Chaudhary (women’s 51kg), Jaismine Lamboria (women’s 57kg), Sachin Siwach (men’s 60kg), Arundhati Choudhary (women’s 70kg), Ankush (men’s 80kg) and Narender Berwal (men’s +90kg) will all be aiming for a place in the semi-finals and a guaranteed medal.

On the track, Animesh Kujur begins his men’s 200m campaign in the heats, while the swimming programme reaches its final day with Srihari Nataraj, Sajan Prakash, Aneesh Gowda and Aryan Nehra all looking to sign off their Glasgow campaigns on a high.
